A favorite destination for visitors to the Berkshires is Tanglewood Music Center. The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra draws people from near and far to take in some of the world’s best music in a wonderful setting. Tanglewood is one of the best examples of how the natural beauty of the Berkshire Hills combines with arts and culture to make the area so special. During the summer, Tanglewood Music Center comes alive with performances of classical, contemporary and popular music. The Gateways Inn is a proud Business Partner with Tanglewood and supports the Center year round.
Each year Tanglewood presents an impressive schedule of performances ranging from classical music led by esteemed conductors, to concerts by pop and rock artists. Tanglewood Music Center also keeps yearly traditions, such as the annual concert featuring James Taylor and his band over the Fourth of July. This year’s July 4th performance has already sold out, but if you act quickly, you may be able to get a bench seat to the performance on July 3rd. Hint from a local: last minute lawn tickets are always available at low cost! Another extremely popular performance is Film Night, featuring legendary conductor and composer John Williams. Williams’ Oscar winning music has scored dozens of phenomenal films with pieces that are instantly recognizable such as Jaws, Star Wars, Shindlers List and Harry Potter.
This year’s schedule also includes appearances by world renowned cellist Yo-Yo-Ma as well as TV and Broadway star Jason Alexander. And for a unique and unforgettable experience, don’t miss A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, which will be broadcast live on public radio. This legendary variety show features singing, drama and humor. The season closes at the end of August with concerts by TRAIN, Grammy nominated singer Josh Groban, and all-time favorite crooner Tony Bennett.
