59th Annual Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade

Berkshire Fall FoliageEach autumn in the Berkshires, the trees turn from green to a variety of beautiful hues of orange, gold, and red. It’s a truly special time of year in this part of the country that we at the Gateways Inn love to call home. To celebrate the changing colors of the trees that are so abundant in the Berkshires, the nearby town of North Adams plays host to the Annual Northern Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade. It’s a day full of fun and activities that will get you out into the community with the locals to enjoy the changing seasons!

The 59th Annual Northern Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade is held each year in North Adams, not too far (35 minute drive) from the Gateways Inn. This year’s parade will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 1:00 PM. The festivities include the titular parade and activities geared toward appreciating the natural beauty of the Berkshires. Each year celebrates the season with a theme. The theme for the 59th celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Mohawk Trail and the impact it has had on the residents and visitors of the Berkshires. It just so happens that the 65-mile Mowhawk Trail is a great place for a scenic hike to admire the Berkshire fall foliage.

The celebrations at the Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade include the actual parade filled with local marching units, bands, and floats made by members of the community. There is also the traditional leaf hunt to look forward to. Contestants search the foliage for special paper leaves among the real ones. When found, these special leaves can be traded for prizes from local merchants.

The parade is not the only way to enjoy the beautiful Berkshire fall foliage, though. When you visit at the right time during the fall, the colors will be abundant along scenic drives, hikes, and general sight-seeing around the area.
