What to Do in the Berkshires this Fall 2014

What to Do in the Berkshires This FallIt’s time to start planning your vacation for the most beautiful season of the year! The Gateways Inn is located in the heart of the Berkshires, a perfect destination year-round. But there is something special about visiting the area in the changing colors of fall. To get you started on planning your vacation, we have come up with a few fun and entertaining things to do in the Berkshires this fall!

One thing we look forward to in the area is the 58th Annual Northern Berkshire Fall Foliage Festival Parade. On Sunday, October 6, the streets of Downtown North Adams will be filled with floats, musicians and so much more! Numerous bands from all over the state come together and provide the festivities with sweet sounds. Each year the festival has a theme and this year’s theme will embrace the rich history of ghosts, legend, and folklore in the Berkshires. The 2014 Festival will celebrate “Haunts Legends, and Ghost stories.” The Festival was created to celebrate the advent of the fall foliage season and still holds true to the original concept.

Another fantastic event to take part in is the Annual Founders Weekend! September 19 through September 22, the town of Lee celebrates its birthday with Founder’s Weekend. With entertainment, a parade, family activities and more, visitors will enjoy a little taste of Lee. The weekend also features the Chamber’s Corn Cook-off! There is something for everyone at Founder’s Weekend!

Two other annual events showcasing the Berkshire’s autumn spirit are the County Fair at Hancock Shaker Village and 35th Lenox Apple Squeeze Weekend and Harvest Festival. Celebrate the bounty of the harvest on the spectacular grounds of Hancock Shaker village On September 27 and 28. With a fabulous farmer’s market, wagon rides and crafts, there is something for everyone at the County Fair. The food tent is the place to enjoy regional specialties. Live music, agriculture demonstrations and piles of hay to jump in, the Fair is full of exciting activities. The always-anticipated pie contest and the juried Harvest of Quilts will take place during this fun filled event!

Come out on September 27th and 28th and and participate in the 35th Lenox Apple Squeeze Weekend. This two-day festival, located in the center of the elegant town of Lenox, celebrates all things apple (pies, cakes, cider, and even pizza). This street fair is a great way to experience the culture and get to know the locals. The event also features live music, played by bands from all over the area. Make your way to Downtown Lenox’s Main Street and create some unforgettable memories.
